When I first started playing piano in the lobby of New York City’s Grand Hyatt Hotel, I “battled” the fountain. The huge marble fountain cascaded thousands of gallons of water each minute; it was loud and unforgiving. My best friend gave me some great advice when I complained. She told me to stop “fighting the fountain” and to find its music. After she spoke those words, I found a way to make music alongside the fountain and this advice has served as a great metaphor in my life, allowing me to go with the flow on more than one occasion.
