This is the last composition on “Dreaming of Summer” to be transcribed. It took 17 years. Why so long?
I composed this piece while in the surgical waiting room 17 years ago while my then one month old baby daughter was undergoing heart surgery. I was so frightened. The waiting room was filled with happy families waiting for babies to be born in the maternity ward. I left and found the hospital chapel, and composed this piece. I imagined a happy ending…one where I could “turn the page” to a life outside the neonatal intensive care unit. Our baby was 1 lb, 4 oz when she had this surgery. She remained in the NICU for 4 months. Fortunately, we had our happy ending.
It just took me a while to *really* “turn the page” and release the song as sheet music. Just the other day I shared it with her for the first time at the piano with a poem I had written to go along with the music. We both had a good cry. Now she is packing to go to college. xo Robin
